One of the most damaging seasonal pests, the carpenter ant, is going to be “waking-up” soon and you need to protect your property from its activities.

There are many species of carpenter ants in the northwest, but the two most important are the Western Carpenter Ant (Camponotus modoc) and The Cavity Carpenter Ant (Camponotus vicinus). These ants are easy to identify because they are HUGE compared to other ants. Camponotus modoc is all black and Camponotus vicinus has a black head, a red thorax (the middle part) and a black abdomen (the rear-end). If you see these pests, try to catch one in a jar or on a piece of tape. We can identify it for you or you can take it to a local extension office.
